TikTok launches new photo feature to rival Instagram

October 11, 2022

TikTok is rolling out a new feature called Photo Mode, which allows users to create slideshows of still images set to music. To use Photo Mode, users can click the "Upload" button on the For You page, select the photos they want to include, and add music and effects.

TikTok recently rolled out a new feature that is strikingly similar to Instagram's carousel posts. This adds to the recent history of social media platforms mirroring each other's features. In the past, TikTok has inspired new features across social media platforms, including Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

In addition to TikTok's Photo Mode feature, the company rolled out a few new enhanced editing features. These include the ability to easily adjust clips, sounds, images, and text within TikTok's creation flow.

TikTok has announced several new features to help users edit their videos, including trimming, splitting, and speed adjustments. The company has also increased the character limit for descriptions from 300 to 2,200. These changes are currently available in the U.S. and most global regions.

Edit clips: Stack, trim, and split video clips. Edit sounds: Cut, trim, and set the duration for sounds. Edit and position text: More easily edit, position, and set the duration for text. Add overlays: Add photo and video overlays for picture-in-picture (or video-in-video) stacking. Adjust video speed: Speed or slow the pace of video clips. Frame content: Rotate or zoom in and out of frame of individual clips. Add sound effects": Add sound effects to videos
