We've heard from users that they prefer detailed, in-depth reviews with evidence that products have actually been tested. In response, we've updated our Search ranking algorithms to prioritize authentic, helpful content. Today, we're launching another update to further improve our ability to identify high quality product reviews. This will make it easier for users to find sound purchasing advice, and reward creators who are earnest in being helpful.
The update will roll out over the next few weeks and may impact the rankings of English-language product reviews across many sites. So far, we've seen positive effects from our initial changes on the English-language ecosystem and online shoppers. We plan to open up product review support for more languages in the future.
If you create product reviews in any language, we recommend following our best practices for product reviews to help your content have the most impact.
Google recently updated its product review policies, and received a number of questions about how those updates apply to reviews with multiple products. In response, Google stated that the updates apply to all forms of review content, and shared some best practices for writing high-quality reviews.
When recommending a product as the best overall or best for a certain purpose, Google recommends sharing with the reader why you consider that product the best. This might include discussing what sets the product apart from others in the market, or why the product is particularly suited for its recommended purpose. First-hand evidence, in the form of results from tests or comparisons, is also helpful in supporting these claims.
As a follow-up to the recent update to the way Google Search handles product reviews, the company has clarified that writing both in-depth single-product reviews and high quality ranked lists of related products can be an effective way to improve your chances of ranking well in search results.
